Publication of A Catalogue of Minakata Kuamgusu Library

Tanabe City and Minakata Kumagusu Residence Commemoration Foundation will publish the content catalogues of Minakata Kumagusu Library and materials in the old Minakata residence (Tanabe, Wakayama) in 2004. The association of Minakata Kuamgusu Archives has conducted a long-term surveillance on these items since 1992, and the compilation of catalogues are now in its final phase. Library catalogue (Western, Chinese, Japanese premodern and Japanese modern) is to be out in early 2004, and the catalogue of various materials (including autographic documents, correspondence, research instruments etc) will follow in 2004 fiscal year.

Tanabe City is now preparing to establish 'Minakata Kumagusu Institute * (working name)' in 2006 on the basis of the Minakata collections in the old Minakata residence. These catalogues are to be used as the lists of books and collections housed in the Institute, besides being expected to offer an essential key to the study of Minakata Kumagusu for researchers and readers. * Tanabe City has officially decided the name of this new institute, the purpose of which will be to promote the research and commemoration of the bequeathed Minakata collections (library and archives), as 'Minakata Kumagusu Archives' (Japanese name: Minakata Kuamgusu Kensho Kan).
